    My Royaltek RPJ 2000 :-)

    Some precisions before the review:
    - I am not a good british speaker/writer... I hope you can understand that review!
    - I do not know where I put the Usb cable of my camera... then I will post some others pics later if I understand how to put them!)
    - May be I will do some errata/complements if I think I forgot some thing, to explain the pics, or if you tell me something is totally ununderstandable :-)

    ROYALTEK RPJ 2000

I was looking for a picoprojector with a minimum of brightness and resolution, and who make no noise. When I first saw the Royaltek RPJ2000, I think I can give it a try...
I know some customer who were happy with Gps made by Royaltek; they bought to Cricel (the french reseller).., the french law say that you must be refound if you return (before 1 week) a product bought by internet (I do not know in GB..?), then I had no hesitation and I send my order on friday 18/12 to Cricel . Monday 21/12 the pico was in my mailbox.

First suprise: In the box I found exactly what I saw in the internet's description of the product :-) There are: the pico, a manual, a tripod, a little bag, the 1200mAh battery (NP60, the same that in some cameras, then it must be easy to find a 2nd one if needed), an AC-adaptator, and short Vga and RcaVideo cable. There is a shutter who protect the lens, and the big focus "wheel" is easy to find and use with the finger.

Second surprise: I had a 10 lumen pico (AipteV10)... The RPJ2000 claims to be 14 lumens, but (compared to the Aiptek) it is night and day! We are used to watch the Tv news before supper on the Pc screen in the living room... and now our children can keep playing to the Sims on the Pc, and we watch most comfortably Tv News on a A3 papersize, with the integrated loudspeakers, and with the 100W ligh on :-)

Third surprise: I have and old screen for slideshow (base is 1,2m ~ 47') who was too big for the Aiptek... it could be greater for the Royaltek (in darkness). During hollydays we had no screen and we use a white "bed cloth" with a diagonale around 1,8m(~70') and some time more... Every members of the family was happy to watch the "Ring Quest" with a 2m diagonal, even for the dark scenes of the movie :-)
2 pics are ont the site:

Fourth suprise: my wife, who is reluctant to all "that gadgets things", prefer now to watch Tv and Dvd on the ceilar than on our 22' TV screen when we are in the bed... and when she fall in sleep, I can (with headphone!) use it (no fan= no noise :-)

The integrated loudspeakers are little but they really can be use. The first day, when testing everything/everywhere, looking some scenes of StarTreck on the slideshow screen with my daughter, we forgot we were not using real loudspeaker!

I test the battery. ~1 hour (at full brightness) and more than 2h (at 50% brightness) before the pico stop. Few minutes before stopping, there is a little warning on the screen, and when I forget to put it back full brightness when plug again with Ac, I don't notice it immediatly.

With the Vga connection and a Pc, I can read 10pts police, and comfortably 12pts when the display of the PC is on 640x480. If the Pc is on 800x600 or 1024x768 the size of the police must be 12 and 14. If the Pc resolution is greater (or the refresh >60hz) the pico does not work.

There is OnScreeDisplay where you can choose/use one of the preset (pictures, PPT, movies). and/or play with contrast, brightness, hue, saturation, respective level of Red/Green/Blue,,...

After 3 weeks, I am always happy with my Royaltek, We use it every day (TV News in the living room, on battery ; Tv/Dvd movies in the evening from bed on the ceilar; movies on screen with the children; slideshow in family or friends meeting, and fun in the street ;-),...
We use it with Dvb-tuner, Dvd player, TV-out of Pc, Vga connection, and Rca-out of camcorder, camera or mp4. I know there is a special cable for Ipod/Iphone, but I prefer the Rca out of my YR1 Samsung who do not need movies conversion/resize and work perfectly too ;-)

The only thing I miss is a really good media player, and a SD (not a microSD!) reader, with no size limitation for pics and movies we did with our camera...
Actually I see only 2 negative points:
    - the video adaptator seem weak; when you play moving the pico you loose sometime the picture (we took some fun in street with my daughter... same kind than if you look for "picoundergound" on YouTube). I would prefer a simple standard Usb connector
    - there is no connector for an earphone. But, a simple adaptator plug to the audio cable resolved easily this problem!
I can find some other negative points: I would like more lumens, bigger resolution, better life of battery,..., but there are the same you will find in all picoprojectors today!
When I have a look on the other picos really available today, I think - for my use - I do the right choice (and it is the cheaper pico: 219€!):
There are some picos with lower brightness and resolution ( Aiptek, Optoma, Swivel,...)
There are some pico with better brightness/resolution, but independant review talk about their fan noise (MPro120, AaaxaP2/Adaptec,...)
The only other choice (for me today) could be the new Aiptek T30, but it does not have Vga connector, it is more expansive, and it was not available when I bought the Royaltek... and I am not sure it does not have a fan (I ask Aiptek's importator and, after some weeks, they answer me "we think there is not" !).
One last word about the showwx: I was waiting for it... but a spanish friend told me his Vodafone reseller (in Bilbao) can tell when it will be really available for customers... It was the same day that I saw the 1st advertisment for the Royaltek. I know it could take few seconds to make the focus with my pico, but I do not know how many times it takes to can really buy a showwx, and at what price! (today there is only 1 spanish "costumer" of the Showwx who made a review on internet, and he is working in the phone industry...).
Hope you can understand this review, and it could help some of you!

    Hi RiBore!

Firstly thank you very much for this review, your english isnt bad at all! - Its great to see what you think about your pico projector, especially as its one we havent really seen much of!

Secondly thanks for putting a lot of detail in, its great to hear how you are using the pico - do you think if Royaltek released another newer pico you would buy that?

Is it completely silent? does it get quite hot? could you leave it on plugged in for a long time or would it overheat over time?

If you don't mind I will post this on the main site so everyone can read about the Royaltek? Thanks again for taking the time to post your review here - its great to read real pico everyday users opinions on the pico projector's of today.

Also Welcome to the pico forum's, hope you stay long

    Thank for the comment :-)
And yes, I think I buy a new Royaltek... if somebody stole this one, or if a new one give me something really more than this one (I think more lumens, "trapeze correction" and a zoom) ...and always no fan noise :-) Integration of a good mediaplayer (with a SD reader, not micro-Sd!) could be a good thing too (but I have a good external one), but I am sceptical on what I read about the integration of a Dvb-tuner for Tv... In France (I don't know elsewhere) Dvb-t does not really work without a really good (amplified and often dual) antenna installation ... then an external tuner (even a "Diversity" Usb stick on a netbook) is not a real problem because it could work easily than an integrated tuner... (I have some friends who own a DvdPlayer with a Dvb-Tv integrated, and if they want watch Tv (and not only talk about...) they have to bought something else ;-)

    For your other questions:
    - You can put the review on the main site (I will try to post some more pictures)
    - There is really no noise (my wife, who is very "noise sensitive..., can sleep at few centimeters of the pico while I watch Tv during the night... She complains sometimes about my earphones:-),
    - It does not come really hot (you, or a child, can easily take it in hand after few hours... It is hot like my smartphone when I use Gps + Wifi)
    - I let it plug all the time (but when I use it on battery :-)). It does not overcharge and cut off automatically (there is a little orange LED; light is "on" when the battery is charging).
